Dating back to the Renaissance the ruling Medici family held a feast for the peasants and later whilst everyone was sleeping a rival family sent in the assassins to kill the Medici.
Roosters in the courtyard, started cackling and created a disturbance. And so the Rooster has become a good luck symbol. The Medici family commissioned local artists to create ceramic replicas as good luck symbols. Still reproduced exactly the same today, the famous jugs have become collectables and used for wine pitchers.
